Angell Family Reunion Plans Finalized!

It took a rainy day excursion to Summit County Colorado to get 'er done but plans for the 2009 Angell Family Reunion have have finally been finalized (I know that's redundant but I don't care). As rain drenched Denver this morning cousin Kevin drove up from Colorado Springs to Castle Rock and piled in the car with me, Shelby and Haley to drive up to Keystone for the day to firm up details for the July 3-5 Angell Family Reunion.

We had two significant details to resolve: the venues and menus for the Friday evening dinner and Saturday picnic events. OK, so I have to confess that these issues should have been resolved long ago but busy work and travel schedules interfered and, let's face it, some things just can't be handled over e-mail and the internet!

I have to admit that I was getting a little worried about how we would pull off the Angell Family Picnic on Saturday, July 4. Several weeks ago it dawned on me that this was the FOURTH OF JULY -- only one of the biggest outdoor/picnic days of the year! I wasn't sure we'd be able to find a suitable location for all of us to enjoy the day together but somebody was looking out for us (funny how that works in this family). It may not be the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow but after a relatively short search we found Rainbow Park in Silverthorne -- less than 10 minutes from the Keystone Resort (at left).

Complete with a massive football/soccer/frisbee ultimate field (above), sand volleyball courts (at left), tennis courts, basketball court, children's playground and three covered pavillions with charcoal grills (below)...Rainbow Park was a godsend. And it has been reserved for our use from 8 am until 2 pm on Saturday, July 4.

Granted, we only have eclusive use of the covered pavillions, picnic tables and grills, but there is plenty of space for everyone to enjoy a day filled with family fun and friendly competition (yeah, right, I forgot this is the Angell Family!) . So bring your tennis shoes, tennis rackets and sunscreen. We will provide the basketballs, footballs and frisbees.

And bring your appetite! We have a traditional Fourth of July menu of hamburgers, hot dogs, and all the fixins to refuel you after all the fun.

Saturday afternoon and evening in Summit County promises plenty of Fourth of July events for the whole family including the Main Street parade in Frisco that afternoon and fireworks back at the Keystone Resort in the evening.
As for Friday evening, we have reserved the Edgewater Cafe at the Keystone Lodge for a family dinner and Angell Family storytime from 6-9 pm. Check in time at the Keystone Resort is 4 pm. From 4-6 we will gather on the deck at the Pine Pool (near our condos) where private shuttles will pick us up and transport us to the Lodge. Private shuttles will also be available to take us back to the Pines section of the Evergreen condos after dinner (at 8 and 9 pm).

We will close the Reunion on Sunday morning in the Silvers Room at the Keystone Lodge with a Family Worship Service featuring all our favorite contemporary and classic hymms. It will be the perfect way to wrap up a weekend of family fun, fellowship and...food (OK, so I needed a third "F" to finish the alliteration and food was all I could think of -- YOU try writing this stuff!).

I look forward to seeing everyone in ONE MONTH!

Calling All Angells

Last night Shelby sang "Calling All Angels" at her high school talent show in front of a packed house (her first time singing in front of a real audience). While listening to her performance I kept thinking this would be an appropriate "theme song" for the Angell Family Reunion! So, if you haven't yet made plans to attend the Angell Family Reunion, here's Shelby "calling all you Angells" to join us in Keystone on July 3-5, 2009!

"Calling All Angels" by Train

I need a sign to let me know you're here
All of these lines are being crossed over the atmosphere
I need to know that things are gonna look up
'Cause I feel us drowning in a sea spilled from a cup
When there is no place safe and no safe place to put my head
When you feel the world shake from the words that are said

[Chorus:]
And I'm calling all angels
I'm calling all you angels
I won't give up if you dont give up [Repeat x4]

I need a sign to let me know you're here
'Cause my TV set just keeps it all from being clear
I want a reason for the way things have to be
I need a hand to help build up some kind of hope inside of me
[Chorus]
When children have to play inside so they don't disappear
And private eyes solve marriage lies cause we don't talk for years
And futbol teams are kissing Queens and losing sight of having dreams
In a world that what we want is only what we want until it's ours
[Chorus x2]
Calling all you angels [Repeat till fade]

You can also watch the YouTube video of her performance via this link.

More Photos Found...More Photos Needed!

Tonight Leslie and I went through our photo files and found a few more pics from previous reunions...but we need your help! First, we need help verifying the dates/locations of the first two reunions. Based on the photos, the first two reunions were held at Christ Haven in 1980 and 1984. Is that right?

Second, is the photo at left (from left: Judy, Phyllis, Julia, Vi, Adele and Lynda) from 1980 or 1984? Leslie thinks 1984, the first reunion she attended (as a significant other!).

Finally, we need more photos! I have created slide shows for every reunion (at right), but as you can see I have very few pics from the early years. So send me your shots to darenwms@comcast.net and I will add them in!

Leslie and I have had lots of fun looking through lots of old photos tonight. I hope you have as much fun, and uncover as many fond memories, as you search for your old reunion pictures. And be sure to bring your cameras to Keystone in July!

Photos Needed From 1994, 1989 and 1984 Reunions

After Wiley submitted his photos from the 1999 reunion, Leslie and I dug up some from 1994 (at left: GG's Great Grandkids -- click on photo to enlarge).

I still have to scan the rest of them in and create a 1994 slideshow. In the meantime, please send me ANY photos you can find from previous reunions so I can create slideshows for 1994, 1989 and 1984.

If you have photos from previous reunions, please e-mail them to me at darenwms@comcast.net.

Reunion Update: Keystone Reservations/Volunteers Needed

Although the deadline for making your family reunion reservations at the Keystone Resort passed on Friday, April 3, there are still rooms available in the Evergreen condos. I know many of you have already made your reservations. If not, please make your reservations now to ensure availability in the Evergreen condos so we can all be together in the same area. Information on making these reservations is posted in the column to the right.

Also, we are forming three committees to help with reunion planning: Food, Fun and Fellowship. The Food committee will help with planning the family dinner on Friday night and the picnic brunch on Saturday. The Fun committee will help plan the "Angell Family Games on Saturday afternoon. The Fellowship committee will plan the "Angell Story Time" on Saturday afternoon and Fellowship time on Sunday morning (worship service, pictures, goodbyes).

Welcome to the Angell Family Reunion Website!

Angell family reunions hold many memories for me...and I'm sure for many of you. The first C.J. and Ed family reunion I remember took place at Christ Haven Lodge in Florissant, Colorado. That must have been what, 1979? 30 years ago? Is that right? Wow.

[At left: Wiley, Stephanie and Daren (me), Angell Family Reunion, 1979. Check out the "bootie shorts."]

Our family shares a special bond: family, friendship, fellowship. We have always been more than family. We are also friends. And beyond family and friendship, we share the fellowship of children of Christ.

Five years ago we gathered in Keystone, Colo., where we will return on July 3-5, 2009. This time we have booked condos grouped in West Keystone called Evergreen. The Evergreen Condominiums are located on the west side of the resort in a secluded, wooded area, just a short ride from the base of Keystone Mountain. These secluded units feature larger living quarters, stone fireplaces and full size kitchens. Evergreen also has an indoor pool/hot tub and outdoor picnic area.

Five years ago you asked Larinda and I to represent the familes of Ed and C.J. Angell. We are pleased to invite you to join us in Keystone this July. We think this will be a great location for us to gather. The proposed agenda (at right) includes plenty of full family gatherings as well as time to form smaller groups of individual families, cousins, older/younger generations, etc. It will be a wonderful gathering.
